9 to bring in more technology
January 11, 2006Cricket coverage may be better than ever before. Nine’s director of sport, Steve Crawley says:
Our ultimate goal is to have the best cricket coverage in the world for the Ashes next year. We are working on technology that has never been seen before - some of it will come through, some of it won’t. We’re spending a lot of time on this. That’s how big the Ashes are to us. There’s scientific stuff with ball paths and a camera that shows heat off the ball. Real CSI stuff. It might come off. But at the end of the day, you can have all the cameras in the world, but it’s really about people. We’re trying new things for the one-dayers this summer. We want to highlight the player in a way that hasn’t been done before.

Technology cetainly is welcomed in cricket. The image it gives to almost everything it focuses on - on the ground and off the ground gets glorified. Be it a player or the ones covering the game. And that adds up to the revenue pile up for all that are brought to the limelight. The larger than life image certainly helps up the personal benefits that are drawn apart from the game. Thanks to Carry Packer.

It was indeed Packer who revolunised the cricket with night games and coulour cloths and white balls. Today it is the most popular format of the game. Thanks to the man who visulised (& invested) the colourful and bright future of the game.

May his soul rest in peace. His contribution to the welfare of cricketer too needed to be taken into account. it was he who made them financially worth what they are. Huge money is making the body of cricket too a place of politics, specially in India.

India abstain from the packer cricket (world series) in 70’s. But it seems to have benefitted the most from its revolution. The BCCI is one of the richest cricketing body in the world and the packages the crickers are getting are sight of envy for early years players.

Technology change so many things in cricket. On the ground and off the ground. Burden on third umpire so less by technology. It a player or the ones covering the game. Adds up to the revenue pile up for all that are brought to the limelight. The larger than life image certainly helps up the personal benefits that are drawn apart from the game. So many thanks to Carry Packer of Australia.
