the fact that why india does not win the olympics is that there is no encouragement in our country for other games other than cricket. our government also not supporting other games. they just wanna participate in the olympics just for name sake.there is no sponsors to sponsor our players and to encourage them by their wealth. the sponsors want to earn more money by sponsoring the players who just achieved before. the achievers are very less in our country and thus there is no responsibility by our sponsors. to make our nation an olympied nation the whole 5 crore must support our participents and if can the talenters should also come up to win the olympics.not only the spectators our government also cooperate the players and the talenters.

That is your perspective Jagdish and I respect it. I do see sport as an industry which can help the country at large as well however. Give priority to rural development but why ignore development of sport.

I can't see <a href="http://jagadish.blogspot.com/2005/05/overemphasizing-sporting-achievement.html" rel="nofollow">what is the big deal about winning an Olympics medal</a>. There're more important things that we should be focussing on!

@ Preetam - That is one way of looking at it Preetam. The infrastructure and thus talent doesn't come up as there isn't any money and the money doesn't come is as there isn't any talent. There is a talent in sports like Chess but I guess a World Cup 1983 or a Sania Mirza has to happen to kick start a sport.

I guess it is a chiken and egg situation. Like soccer and hockey are not that popular at the national level, so the sponsors are not there. There is no widespread coverage (on tv) and thus there is no popular awareness.
